We added another stop on our Thursday Agenda...Story time at the Library. I wish I would have taken advantage of this sooner for both of my boys. It is great fun! I brought Carter yesterday afternoon for his age group and he really enjoyed it. I did too! It was just him and I and that doesn't happen very often. It was a great bonding time. Today, was Cade's turn to give it a try and he just loved it! The different storytimes are categorized by age group. Today was Cade's age group, but siblings can come along and everyone just has a great time. Carter says it was fun, except for all the babies. I have been wanting to get Cade some interaction with other babies around his age. When he saw all the kids, he was just bursting with smiles. This will be really good for him. So, on Thursdays we have Story time, Speech Therapy, and then drive 1 1/2 hrs to Hippo therapy...Busy, Yes...But I wouldn't have it any other way. Today at Hippotherapy Cade trotted on his horse. I posted on the video on the previous post. It was probably the cutest thing I have seen! He is so happy on the horse and when he started trotting he just beamed. The rougher the better with my kiddos. Cade actually threw a fit to get off the horse today. He has started some little mini tantrums. He throws himself all over the place and kicks like crazy. Thank God he is still so little that I can control him, I know that may not always be true. Carter never has been a real fit thrower(if that is even a word). He whines and cries for his way sometimes, but hardly ever has had an actual tantrum and he is about to be 4. Cade is now 15 months. Hmmmm...Somebody is going to be a handful! The easy thing now too is that Cade is so easily distracted. I can detour a tantrum every time. He is so rotten. He can go from kicking and screaming to smiling and laughing in like 2 seconds! Well, it has been a long day...Goodnight friends!
So, today has been mentally taxing on me. From finishing up my Summer classes and final tests, to losing a dear, fellow PWS Mom friend, and then taking Cade to his first swim practice for the Special Olympics. I've shared extreme highs and extreme lows today, but as I unwind tonight I feel compelled to share this with whoever decides to read it. Some of you may know this about me, but most probably do not. I have always felt a strong attraction to working with those with special needs. It just always felt right and from a young age I remember looking up local jobs and volunteer opportunities..always searching for something to fulfill that desire. I was actually enrolled in college for Family and Consumer Science and was planning to go into Special Education. I had taken the Parapro assessment and actively looking for Para jobs.
