I have always been food conscious long before Cade came along. Then, Cade's diagnosis gave me that much more of a reason to follow through with a proper diet. So, Cade has always been on somewhat of a schedule. Now it is time to get the rest of us in gear. Carter never wants to sit down and finish a full meal and would rather pick and roam all day. This can't happen anymore. In my opinion, if Cade isn't eating no one really needs to be. Even though, the constant hunger hasn't set in for Cade yet (hopefully), he is still very intrigued with food. You can say certain words, then if you don't follow through a fit will soon follow. So, we would prefer to start monitoring food and schedules now, rather than wait until we have to. It just seems fair. For now, this will affect me the most. I am responsible for Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and supper. Always being on the go, I will have to really plan and get a grip. I want to though, and I know it will just become a habit soon. The kids are already eating healthy, just not that strict with times they eat. We also don't always eat at the same time. And so it begins....Today!
So, today has been mentally taxing on me. From finishing up my Summer classes and final tests, to losing a dear, fellow PWS Mom friend, and then taking Cade to his first swim practice for the Special Olympics. I've shared extreme highs and extreme lows today, but as I unwind tonight I feel compelled to share this with whoever decides to read it. Some of you may know this about me, but most probably do not. I have always felt a strong attraction to working with those with special needs. It just always felt right and from a young age I remember looking up local jobs and volunteer opportunities..always searching for something to fulfill that desire. I was actually enrolled in college for Family and Consumer Science and was planning to go into Special Education. I had taken the Parapro assessment and actively looking for Para jobs. Then I became pregnant for Cade and life had other plans. Given my role now to Cade, isn't it ironic? OK, so here is an e-mail I dug up from my in...
Good Luck!! I pre-plan C's meals on Sunday and write it all down. Since we are on the go too, it's one less thing I have to think about :)
